Weekend 0: Not Much to do

Sunday: Cambridge - London - Munich - Graz - Villach

If you're interested in pictures from the MITSO tour, go here.

I left Cambridge in the morning and travelled by train to London. Took a taxi to Heathrow (big mistake - much farther than I thought, but I didn't have much time). I caught the plane to Graz, with a short layover in Munich. Once I arrived in Austria, I found out my checked luggage was nowhere to be found. At least I had Laura and my camera (who needs clothes?). I left my address with Lufthansa and boarded the train in what I hoped was the right direction to the center of Graz (at least the main train station - Hbf). I knew the times trains were leaving for Villach and I arrived about 20 minutes before the last one. Unfortunately, I didn't have any money and couldn't really find out where the trains were leaving from. I ran off to a nearby hotel and changed the rest of my American dollars (just enough for the ticket), then tried to get the location of the train from the guy in the information booth who didn't speak English. However unsuccessful that was, I made it to the train with a few minutes to spare. I was quite glad that I didn't have to lug around the suitcase...

After about a three hour journey, I made it into Villach about midnight. I took a taxi to the address I was supposed to stay at, and all I found was a locked door. I figured it was too late and slept in a hotel. Of course, the next day I was supposed to go to work and I had no housing and no clothes...

The next day...

Called in late, bought a shirt and went back to the address, to find the same locked door. The cab driver seemed to think it was the address of a Chinese restaurant that was right next to the door. Anyways, there wasn't any time to worry right then, and I just headed into work, by cab. After work I decided to walk back (only about 4 km), and when I arrived the Chinese restaurant owner pointed me to a little gate and a door in back of the house. I finally arrived and met the old couple who were supposed to rent me the room...

Well, supposed to because they had given the room to someone else after I hadn't showed up the day before. Luckily they gave the room back to me since I was from far away and didn't have anywhere else to stay...
